Data Trusts Initiative

Taking data trusts from theory to practice

Data trusts can offer a vehicle for individuals or groups to choose how they want data that is about them to be used. The Data Trusts Initiative works at the interface of technology, policy and the law to create data trusts that can empower individuals and communities, while supporting data use for social benefit.

  • Understanding data trusts and data stewardship

Our work on the foundations and applications of data trusts explores what data trusts are and what role they play in data stewardship.

  • Advancing research and innovation

Research projects funded by the Data Trusts initiative are investigating how the ideas behind data trusts can be put into practice.

  • Supporting Data Trust Pioneers

Our data trust pilot programme provides support and funding for data trust pioneers who are creating real-world data trust projects.
